“Cut & Burned On Lingit Aani”

Land Acknowledgement Ornaments

The Lingít Language was nearly lost due to colonization and assimilation. Remembering original indigenous place names and sharing the language is a preservation and education effort.

That is what these ornaments are about. To remember that Skagway means absolutely nothing in English. But Shgagwei means “Place with solid core trees” in Lingít .

I collect, cut and dry the driftwood before burning it and oiling it to create a unique memento.

No two are the same. And each is numbered.

40% of all sales go to the tribe.

Know that your purchase contributed to the health and wellbeing of indigenous cultural preservation efforts in Skagway, Alaska.
